I’m sick and tired of reading things in the newspaper that are outright lies: Kyle Sandilands

Kyle Sandilands has responded to a report on news.com.au which accused he and Jackie O of replaying segments when Kyle was off sick, without telling listeners.

The article said:

Without notice, the program recycled its entire show with used segments it had already previously aired, including interviews with The Voice coach Benji Madden, Fuller House star John Stamos… Regular segments including “Snapchat”, where Kyle and Jackie O take listener calls, “Sausage or Taco”, where the hosts figure out if a caller is a man or a woman, and the show’s $10,000 pop quiz, also got a rerun. But what listeners wouldn’t have known is that it was all because Kyle called in sick at the last minute.

Kyle decided that it was time he spoke up this morning, telling KIIS listeners:

“I’m sick and tired of reading things in the newspaper that are outright lies. Even when they contact me for a comment, I might as well not even answer because they just write what they want anyway.

“But pretty much to wrap things up, over the past few weeks I have had a couple of days off, I haven’t been feeling that well, and it goes on and off, some days good, some days not good. But the truth is, you know, I think i’m still trying to deal with the death of my dad – and I just wanted to keep it private, but I’ve gotta put it out there now.

“I don’t want all the doom and gloom and people speculating, but you read things online, you know accusing us of tricking listeners and ‘Kyle’s chucking sickies’ and i got a little bit annoyed and then I thought, ‘hang on, don’t be ashamed of actually missing your father. The guy’s died.

“I’ve gotta come on here everyday, which I love, but some days I just can’t do the fun, do you know what I mean?

“As anyone would know who’s lost someone close to them, it’s tough, anyone would know who’s dealt with death, you have good days and bad days. You do miss them.

“We weren’t super close early in my life, but over the last few years we got close and it was a good relationship, and you know, I’ve been thinking about him a lot.

“Darl you don’t have to explain yourself”, Jackie said.

“I feel like I do, because there’s lies about car accidents and I’ve ‘fled the scene’ and it’s just typical, weird lies. I just can’t stand liars. And when they’re trying to cause trouble… saying we’re trying to trick listeners they’re trying to make us look like ******,” he said.

“We’re just normal people who deal with normal things.
