After a year of ups and downs for New Zealand’s national broadcaster including $18 million in budget cuts and 100th birthday celebrations, the final survey of 2025 has shown that more than 500,000 people listen to RNZ National in a typical week, a target that the broadcaster said was achieved a year ahead of schedule.
GFK Survey 3 was released on November 27 and saw Newstalk ZB No 1 and The Breeze the top music station. RNZ released their figures a few days afterwards, this survey showing 500,300 listening in a typical week for RNZ aged 10 or older, up from 475,800 in the last survey and more than 10,000 from the previous year.
RNZ chief executive Paul Thompson said:
“We’ve achieved our November 2026 goal a year early with these latest results, and we now want to build on that success in 2026.”
All major programs including the flagship RNZ’s Morning Report saw cume growth, but RNZ Concert was again down.
A total of 1,698,000 New Zealanders aged 15+ visited rnz.co.nz in October, the highest ever monthly audience for the website.
Survey 3, was conducted between 10 August and 1 November.
