Commercial FM radio in Mumbai India is all abuzz according to Gerald Brown’s e-broadcastnewsasia. “Five stations are all going on air within the space of two months since the Government opened up the airwaves,” reports Brown.
Radio City has been the latest station to launch. “While it is early days yet, it appears that Radio Mirchi and Radio City would focus on more mass programming, dominated by Hindi film music while GO 92.5 and Radio Win will orient to a urbane, English speaking audiences,” according to Brown.
A recent survey conducted by Madison Media shows overall FM listenership has increased significantly as a result of the new stations going to air, with 56 per cent of people surveyed tuned in to FM.
