“It’s just such an amazing medium.” Newstalk ZB’s Raylene Ramsay celebrates 40 years in radio

This week marks a significant radio milestone across the ditch, with Newstalk ZB’s Raylene Ramsay celebrating 40 years with New Zealand Media and Entertainment (NZME).

Ramsay began her radio journey back in 1976 as an intern at 2ZB Wellington.

She later became a network newsreader for Radio New Zealand.

Since then, Ramsay has co-hosted 2ZB’s Breakfast show alongside Lindsay Yeo, as well as hosting the 9 to midday shift for 2ZA in Palmerston North and working as a Breakfast network newsreader for Classic Hits.

She returned upstairs to Newstalk ZB in 2018 as the newsreader for Afternoons and Drive.

This week, listeners called in to offer their congratulations, with Ramsay saying of radio “It’s just such an amazing medium.”

“If you just hang around long enough, they go ‘Oh, OK, we’ll keep you,” she added, tongue firmly in cheek.
