It’s MovieTime for Radio National

ABC Radio National will introduce a new weekly movie program from the end of this month.

MovieTime with Julie Rigg will go to air on Sundays at 11.40am on Radio National.

Filling the Letter From America slot, MovieTime promises “a lively,
entertaining and comprehensive wrap of movie reviews, interviews, and
behind-the-scenes information.”

The program’s website includes Rigg’s
Picks, and a store of her weekly movie reviews which will provide a
great reference point for movie goers and video renters.

In the first program she will review Roland Emmerich’s new ecological
disaster blockbuster “The Day After Tomorrow”, and in her film forum
segment, Trash or Treasure, Andrew Leavold will talk about one of the
scariest films of recent years, “Audition” by Takashi Miike.

Julie Rigg is well placed to present this style of program, having covered film for Radio National in various arts
programs as a broadcaster and critic since 1991, most recently on
“The Deep End” and “Sunday Morning with Julie Copeland”.

Julie Rigg’s film and journalism credentials include:

*Late last
year she was honoured with the prestigious Geraldine Pascall Prize
for Critical Writing.

*She has served on a number of film juries,
including the Critics Jury at the San Sebastian Film Festival, and
the Toronto International Film Festival.

*She has just stepped down
after four years on the executive of the Film Critics Circle of
Australia, two as president.

Rigg began her career as a print
journalist before joining the ABC in 1971.

Her respected interview style and deep knowledge of film means that
she has been able to secure interviews with many of the world’s
leading film makers.

In the past year she has talked to Quentin
Tarantino, Lars Von Trier, David Cronenberg, Bruce Beresford,
Alexander Sokurov, Abbas Kiarostami, Charlie Kaufman, and Jane
Campion to name a few.

The new program begins on
Sunday, 30 May.
