It’s a new day in radio…

Many of the major metropolitan breakfast shows have returned to the studio this morning after a well deserved break.

One in particular, the Jules, Merrick and Sophie with Mel B breakfast show on 2DAY FM, could be regarded as the most anticipated start of 2014. The newly formed 2DAY breakfast team have begun their first shift amidst the station’s loss of 50-time number 1 FM breakfast show The Kyle and Jackie O Show, who have moved to KIIS 106.5 (formerly Mix 106.5).

Expectations for the new team are high, especially considering the success of their predecessors and because hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson are now being heard on a rival network, with an audience that could defect from 2DAY to KIIS.

This morning’s first Jules, Merrick and Sophie with Mel B show seemed to go off without a hitch but as usual, it will take sometime for the team to settle in together. Take a listen to audio from this mornings show below:

And over at ARN, while KIIS is waiting until next week to unleash Kyle and Jackie, the consistently high rating Jonesy and Amanda went back on air today to begin a new year of solid breakfast entertainment and information with wide appeal. The duo are known to be mum, dad and kid friendly, although Jonesy’s first talk break today about the man with two penises might just have stretched the brief a little. Check out their first show for 2014 here.
