It’s not Kokoda, but still a Great Walk for sick kids by River 94.9’s Ruby & Dave

Breakfast announcers Ruby & Dave completed a mammoth 102km walk in support of Variety, the children’s charity from Toowoomba to Ipswich. They raised $22,000 for specialised equipment for local children who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged.

 

The River 94.9 Variety Friday radio appeal seeks the support of the community to raise urgently needed funds for wheelchairs, nebulisers, specialised buggies are other equipment so important to the daily lives of children with disabilities in the region that they would not otherwise be able to afford.

“This walk has demonstrated the generosity of the business and community in River 949’s coverage area”, said Variety spokesperson Samantha Shumack.

“We receive requests for over $250,000 worth of equipment that will transform the lives of special children in local communities throughout the state and we are grateful for any support that helps us meet this need. Ruby & Dave have joined us in this effort and we encourage others to please donate via our website on www.varietyqld.org.au so we can support some many young ones reach their potential and learn, laugh and find joy in the daily life.” said Ms Shumack.

River 949 Program Director Mike Byrne added “I’m so proud of the guys who not only walk an average of 25k’s a day this week but also presented 4 hours of compelling live radio each day en-route.”
