Jeremy Cordeaux to stay at FIVEaa as colleague battles cancer

After last week announcing his intention to depart FIVEaa, Jeremy Cordeaux told listeners today that he would be staying.

Jeremy revealed he will take over FIVEaa’s nights program, 8pm-12am, currently hosted by Alan Hickey who will step back as he battles cancer.

“It is with sadness that I give you that news about Alan,” Jeremy said. “And it is with delight that I say I have agreed to go back to doing nights. I really do love talking to you…

Jeremy read out on air a statement from Alan:

“I take great strength from the support of my family, listeners and colleagues. Cancer is more prevalent than we care to admit, and I have spoken to my many listeners through the year who are fighting their very own battles.

“I find their strength, determination, positivity to be a great inspiration as I begin my own battle back to good health. I look forward to beating this illness, getting back on air and having lots of fun with our wonderful and supportive FIVEaa listeners.”

Craig Munn, FIVEaa Program Director said, “The news about Alan is devastating to all of us at FIVEaa, but Alan has said that whilst he faces a very big challenge ahead, he is absolutely determined to get well again. We wish him all the very best and are thinking of him during this time. We very much look forward to the day that Alan can broadcast to the FIVEaa audience again.”

In his show live on FIVEaa this afternoon, Jeremy said, “Alan has done a fantastic job in the evening. He is a lovely, delightful man. A man of great experience and great life experience. Alan, our love and best wishes are with you and you know, you can beat anything. The human spirit is just an amazing thing.”

Neil O’Reilly, General Manager said, “We would like to thank Alan for everything he has contributed to FIVEaa during his time with the station. Although it is a tough time, Jeremy was the obvious choice to step back into the role. Prior to hosting FIVEaa’s afternoon show, Jeremy was heard in Evenings and was number one for 14 out of 15 surveys.”
