John Fairfax, Reg Grundy and 5 other radio people receive Australia Day awards

Radio people were plentiful in this year’s Australia Day Honours lists. John B Fairfax who recently regained control of Fairfax Media, owner of print, radio and multi-media outlets, received an Officer of the Order of Australia award, Reg Grundy became a Companion of the Order of Australia, and five other notable radio people were also recognised with awards.

Well known early radio actor and current voiceover artist, Margaret Christensen received her honour for service to the performing arts as a radio, stage, television and film actor, and to the community.

John Geddie from South Australia received an award for service to the church and the community, particularly ethnic community radio.

The late Richard Lane was honoured for service to the arts as the author of screenplays, radio and television scripts, and histories of Australian radio drama.

Ubaldo Larobina from Victoria received an award for service to the media, particularly through the distribution of news and information to Italians living in Australia, and to the community through a range of multicultural, educational and charitable organisations.

Breakthrough Generation presenter Mal Garvin was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia, for service to the community through the establishment of Fusion Australia and the development of social welfare programs that support and guide young people, and as a broadcaster and author.

Former channel nine tv newsreader Brian Henderson also received an Australia Day award.
