John Laws ready to make a come back: Audio

For someone who has retired from radio, John Laws seems to spend an awful lot of time on air. Last week it was a lot of hot air with 3AW’s Neil Mitchell. This week he was on with vega 95.3fm’s Tony Squires, Rebecca Wilson and Mikey Robins, to mark the launch of digital radio.

In contrast to the hostile session on 3AW, old “golden tonsils” was clearly among fans on vega and ventured to ask the breakfast trio “Are you offering me a job? If somebody asked me at the right time I’d probably do it. Because I do miss it”

Here are some highlights of what he had to say about…

The radio wonder days:

“They were marvelous times, it was terrific fun, obviously I was young and carefree, and probably a little carefree if you were to ask my first wife. It was a time of glamour, because it was before television really took hold.”

Missing regular listeners:

“I miss it all quite a lot in fact, I used to love talking to those people, I love Dale, I’ve rung Dale a few times. Dale thinks I’m still on the radio, he’s sweet, he really is sweet.”

His passion for the medium:

“I miss it quite a lot. I would be telling a fib if I said I didn’t miss it. Particularly when there are issues I’d like to be involved in… I never wanted to create mischief that would be damaging to people.”

Kyle Sandilands:

“I think Kyle Sandilands is a figment of his own imagination, frankly. I think he’s reasonably devoid of talent. I don’t think he has an exceptional voice. In fact I’ve never met him, but were I to meet him I’m sure I’d find him a very annoying person. And I think in addition to being annoying, we would be not unreasonable to think he was stupid.”
