John Laws to remain ‘in retirement’ at least for now

Fairfax Radio’s Graham Mott has told radioinfo that he does not expect John Laws to be working with 2SM or any other network, at least until the non-compete clause in his 2UE contract expires at the end of this year.

“I’m informed the deal between Caralis and Laws is off. It seems that John Laws will remain retired from radio, which is consistent with the decision he made in 2007,” Mott says.

John Laws signed with 2UE for 10 years in 2000 with an early retirement option, which he took in 2007. This prevents him from working anywhere else until December when it expires.

Fairfax is believed to have told John Laws’ manager that it would enforce the terms of the agreement if necessary.

Laws, who is overseas, is quoted in the Daily Telegraph saying: “I wouldn’t mind doing something with (2SM owner) Bill Caralis.”
