At the beginning of last Friday, June 26‘s episode of ARN Gold Network‘s The Long Weekend, Eddie McGuire, who was hosting by himself, said that he would have, in this week’s episode, an exclusive chat with Karl Stefanovic, who had been announced to have been sacked from the Nine Network that morning.
You can listen below:
It is possible that chat will still happen to wrap up some loose ends, but Karl Stefanovic won’t return to ARN or The Long Weekend as co-host.
According the the Australian Financial Review (subscription required), that contract, until the end of this year, was worth $200,000. And apparently, at this point in time, the show will go on without him.
To thicken the plot significantly, The Daily Telegraph (also subscription required) says Kyle Sandilands has apparently registered Kyle and Karl as a website. He’s just not able to get kyleandkarl.com.
This makes things challenging for ARN going forward as the multi platform, multi network The Long Weekend loses some of its lustre sans the Sydney voice of Karl, plus everything, all imaging, branding and platforms, will need to be updated. That’s time and money.
Good thing then that ARN are in the process of finally selling Cody HK. The ARN share price currently sits at 26c.
Karl has released a fresh episode of The Karl Stefanovic Show that was recorded, with guest Piers Morgan, just after he was let go by the Nine Network.
Radioinfo has reached out to Karl and ARN for comment.
