Lachlan Murdoch wins control of Fox empire in family trust dispute settlement

Nova Entertainment owner Lachlan Murdoch has won control of the Fox empire after settling a dispute about the Murdoch Family Trust with his siblings.

Voting power in Rupert Murdoch’s Family Trust will now be held by Lachlan, giving him full control over the Murdoch media empire.

The agreement ends a court battle that had pitted the Murdoch siblings against each other in court.

In the original terms of the Trust, all four oldest siblings had equal voting power, raising the possibility that the other three could out vote Lachlan on issues of control or editorial positioning of Fox Corporation and News Corporation.

The settlement plan required a rewrite of the trust’s “irrevocable” terms. James, Elisabeth and Prudence Murdoch opposed the plan, which was devised by Rupert and Lachlan.

The issue has now been settled with a buyout worth billions of dollars to the three other siblings.
