GfK Radio 360 Survey 5 preview

This morning at 9:30am will see the release of GfK Radio 360 Metro Survey 5. It was measured from Sunday June 1 to Sat July 5 and Sunday July 20 to Saturday August 23.

This time of the year is usually one that benefits sports-centric stations as we head towards NRL and AFL finals. It is also often a ‘quiet’ survey so to speak before some changing of the deck chairs and contract negotiations ahead of radio season 2026. However some of those negotiations have been made public early. We already know that Christian O’Connell will broadcast in Sydney on Gold 101.7 (and DAB+ nationally) next year and current hosts Jonesy and Amanda will move to Drive. I would like to think that Jonesy and Amanda, off the back of 20 years of Sydney breakfast together, and with the decision not being their preference but one they have taken graciously, will enjoy a an uptick of listening audience for the rest of the survey calendar.

The Nova Network have a couple of stations that have been functioning without core members of their breakfast teams. In Sydney, on Nova 969, Kate Ritchie returned after a six month mental health absence on August 8 to rejoin Fitzy and Wippa (the team pictured, main). There have been persistent rumours in media publications like The Daily Mail (subscription required) that their breakfast show will wrap up this year. Fitzy and Wippa have been on air together since 2011, Kate joining them in March 2023. They currently sit sixth in the Sydney breakfast ratings but their cumulative audience at times has been second only to Kyle and Jackie O.

In Perth Nova 93.7‘s Nathan, Nat and Shaun have been No 1 breakfast show for seven years. In March Nathan Morris disappeared from the trio with no real explanation. He returned in May saying it was legal proceedings that had kept him away from the show, but he has since gone missing again. In survey 4, 2025 Nath, Nat and Shaun dropped by 4% to 15.5% and one the the narrowest gaps between them and second placed Xav and Katie on Triple M who clearly picked up a good percentage of Nova’s bewildered listeners checking out elsewhere. With Nathan’s absence still unresolved, we may see a new leader on breakfast in Perth in Survey 5.

Elsewhere this should be a better survey for 2GB and 3AW with their NRL and AFL coverage, with plenty of chatter over the future of Nine’s audio arm. Adelaide and Brisbane have switched the station and breakfast leaders this year as new teams bed in. However, if this was a betting game, I like the odds of legendary broadcaster BBQ Bob Gallagher sneaking into the top 3 in Brisbane’s tight breakfast market on 4BH, off the whiff of an oily rag. He was up to 10% audience share last survey, and 4th. The ACE Radio Network have filled a classic hits gap since 4KQ ceased to be and it’s working.

Radioinfo will have all the GfK Radio 360 Survey 5 results, the cume, spin, DAB+ and survey podcast here at 9:30am.
