At least 50 stations in New Orleans still dark

The FCC says at least 50 – and as many as 100 – stations along the Gulf Coast are still dark and without power.

Many more are at the mercy of gas-powered generators – a state of affairs that’s unprecedented in U.S. broadcasting history. FCC Office of Homeland Security Director Kenneth Moran defended the agency’s performance in a Congressional hearing saying more than 200 FCC staffers have been involved in the process – many of them busy calling each of the 160 stations in the path of Katrina.
