Long Lost Australian Radio Stars Shine Again

A new series of articles, on line at www.radioheritage.net, goes back almost 60 years to reveal the long lost radio stars, who made 2KY and 2CH Sydney and 2CA Canberra top stations of the mid 1940s.

Andy Flanagan (originator of 2KY’s ‘Sports Talks’), Eric Walker (Wrestling from Leichhardt Stadium), Bob Pollard (2CH ‘Hit Parade’), Charles Stanley (2CH ‘Good Morning Man’), Len Major (2CA breakfast) and Phil Drummond (‘Tops of the Pops’) are just a few of the stars who shine again.

With photos, biographies and more, these three articles provide a unique window into the world of Australian radio in 1946. Hidden for decades, ‘2KY Radio Personalities’, ‘AWA Station 2CH’ and ‘2CA Canberra Voices’ are part of a new series about Australian radio heritage, which is being released exclusively at www.radioheritage.net

The Radio Heritage Foundation is a New Zealand based non profit
organisation, dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting radio
heritage from around the Pacific Rim.

The ‘2KY Radio Personalities’ story has already rocketed towards the
top of the list of viewed radio articles at the website within a few days of being released – before any publicity.

The revelation comes as radio historian, Wayne Mac, moves closer to launching his upcoming book about the history of Australian radio, with particular emphasis on the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s.

Don’t Touch that Dial will be a quality hard cover coffee table publication with full colour cover, aimed at a relatively discrete market: those in radio or have been in radio and those who enjoy radio more than most. A limited print run will ensure exclusivity.

Inside, there will be dual colour layout, featuring rare photographs, archival graphics and memorable station logos: all on high grade paper.

The book is prepared in four parts:

1. 17 chapters of narrative; includes brief comments from people interviewed mainly between 1997 and 2004.

2. Frequently Asked Questions; a small section, addressing specific radio topics of special interest to listeners: the ‘inside’ hows and whys of radio.

3. The Stations, the Players; a large reference section containing historic profiles of major market stations and their personalities. You might find yourself listed here!

4. News, Sport and Weather; a smaller reference section, listing people who were involved in these areas of radio.
