Media Monitors acquires rival Rehame

Media Monitors has announced the acquisition of rival monitoring company Rehame. Both companies have close links to the radio industry with Sydney radio broadcaster Ian Parry-Okeden starting Media Monitors Australia and Melbourne radio broadcaster Peter Maher starting Rehame.

While the companies specialised in different media in the early days, with Media Monitors covering print and Rehame covering radio and tv, they have both moved into all fields in recent years, generating high competition between the two companies.

Media Monitors and Rehame are privately owned Australian companies, each providing news gathering, monitoring and analysis services
across all states and territories, and in New Zealand.

Announcing the merger today, Media Monitors CEO John Croll said the acquisition will help to
consolidate Media Monitors’ position in the growing global information marketplace:

“Today, media intelligence is less about defined geographic boundaries and more about the
global market for news and information. Consumers want their news delivered fast,
accurately, and straight from the source, irrespective of its physical proximity to them.

“Information channels are increasingly diverse and are rapidly expanding, both in number
and in sophistication. News now arrives more directly to consumers 24 hours a day, seven
days a week via the internet and digital technologies, in addition to more traditional routes.
“Advances in technology have also resulted in a much greater volume of news material in
circulation, and this poses fresh challenges for monitoring agencies like ours. The supply of
reliable, time critical media intelligence is pivotal to our clients.

“This acquisition strengthens our ability to deliver. It consolidates our domestic position,
boosts our human resource and IT capabilities, broadens the reach of the Media Monitors
brand, further extends our access to global media resources, and ensures a more
comprehensive product offering. As a direct result of this exciting combination, clients will see immediate enhancements to
the quality and range of the tailored services that we offer.”

Work has already begun on the integration of the Rehame business with Media
Monitors. The Rehame brand will cease to be used from early June.
