MediaWorks ring in the changes for 2023

Paul Ego (pictured) joins the More FM Breakfast Club in 2023, the same station where he started his media career more than 20 years ago.

The New Zealand comedy veteran and TV personality will join Lana Searle and Adam Percival next year when Gary McCormick leaves the show after 18 years of early starts which he announced on-air earlier this week with him moving to Today FM in April.

Paul Ego says, “I’m fizzing at the gills to be back on the radio again, particularly at More FM – for me it’s where it all started!

“I also wanna give huge kudos to Gary for his part in the More FM legacy. Gary’s got a great comedic mind and he’s such a superb wordsmith. Clearly his are big shoes to fill but thankfully I’m a hefty man with large feet.”

More FM Content Director Amy Collett says, “We’re absolutely thrilled to have Paul join More FM next year. The Breakfast Club is a staple for many Kiwis each weekday morning and we can’t wait for our listeners to start their day with a laugh with Lana, Adam and Paul Ego. I would also like to thank Gary for his long standing contribution to the Breakfast Club over the past 18 years.”

MediaWorks has also announce a number of other lineup changes for 2023 across The Edge, Mai, The Breeze and The Sound.

The Edge

After a year of hosting TV shows including Dancing With the Stars NZ, The Masked Singer NZ and Heartbreak Island, Clint Randell is returning to The Edge Breakfast in 2023 with Meg Mansell and Dan Webby between 6am and 10am weekdays.

Nickson Clark will team up with Sharyn Casey and Steph Monks for Afternoons next year with Jayden King embarking on his OE.

Mai

The Mai Home Run will welcome Storme Hitaua to the whānau in 2023. Storme will join Randy Sjafrie (previously nights) from 3-7pm weekdays with Fame Teu moving from drive to join the Mai Morning Crew next year.

Storme joins Mai after five years with Flava.

The Mai Morning Crew will farewell Brook Ruscoe at the end of the year with Brook announcing earlier this week he’s stepping down from his full time role to spend more time with his young son.

The Breeze

After hosting The Breeze’s nationwide drive show for more than seven years, Robert Scott is making the shift to the 10-3pm workday in 2023, while The Breeze network days announcer Sarah van der Kley will be making the switch to drive.

The Sound

The Sound will welcome Georgia Cubbon as its workday host in 2023. Georgia joins MediaWorks from Gold FM and is taking the reins from Heather Keats who, after 10 years with The Sound, is going to concentrate fully on her Newshub 6pm weather presenting role after doing both roles recently.

MediaWorks Director of Content Leon Wratt says, “We’re really looking forward to starting 2023 with a refresh of some of our shows and are delighted to welcome some brand new on-air personalities to mix things up in the new year. We are confident that our listeners will love hearing the new dynamics, but also the return of those trusted and familiar hosts who feel like part of the family.”
