Mike Perso goes dry this July to raise funds for cancer research

Smooth FM 91.5‘s Melbourne Breakfast host Mike Perso is giving up alcohol this month, raising money for the Dry July Foundation, supporting people affected by cancer, with funds providing invaluable services for patients, their families and carers.

As a social drinker and amateur sommelier, Perso was motivated to get behind the cause after having experienced his father passing from brain cancer.

“Cancer is a mongrel of a thing, and every person knows someone who’s been affected by it.

One minute Mum and Dad were planning their retirement trip to Tassie, the next Dad couldn’t stand up straight and kept falling over. A couple of months later he was dead. It must have been terrifying for him… it was devastating for the family.

I wanted to do something small to help people dealing with cancer, while also challenging myself to stay off the grog too.”

Perso is already close to his $1000 target, which you can donate to here. He and smooth saw continued growth in Melbourne in yesterday’s GfK Radio 360 Survey 4.
