Mix and 104.7 first and second in Canberra survey

In the latest Canberra survey, Mix 106.3 remains on top at 20.9% with an increased lead, while stablemate 104.7 has regained second spot with 18.4% ahead of 666 ABC, which has slipped back one share point to 18%.

Triple J has had the biggest drop of the survey, down nearly three share points to 7.1%, while ABC Radio National has jumped almost two points into fourth spot at 8.1%.

2CC is in fifth place on 7.7%, followed by Triple J, Classic FM on 6.9%, then 2CA on 5.3% and NewsRadio on 2.6%.

666 ABC has won breakfast with 21.9%, down from 25% last survey, after losing former breakfast team, Dave Kilby and Chris Ullman.

MIX 106.3 has increased its audience to 123,000 listeners per week with its breakfast show, ‘Mark & Lisa In The Morning’, also increasing share to 20.2%.

104.7 is also celebrating a rise in breakfast audience share with newcomers, ‘Chris & Sarah’ increasing listenership to 15.4%.

The appointment of Canberra reporter, Fran Kelly, to Radio National breakfast has been responsible for a big lift in RN’s breakfast share, from 8.4 last survey to 10.2 this time.

Mix 106.3 has won the ‘at work’ timeslots, while 104.7 has won nights. 104.7 has dominated the under 25 demographics, Mix has won 25-54s and 666 ABC has won the over 55 demographic.

MIX 106.3 and 104.7 Canberra Program Director, Geoff Fisher, has told radioinfo: “The absolute highlight of these results for our two radio stations is the return to the number 1 and 2 market positions. It’s a massive thumbs up from Canberra radio listeners that we are delivering the kind of radio they want.

“The breakfast show landscape in Canberra has changed over the past six months with five radio stations launching new shows, including MIX 106.3 and 104.7 Canberra. To have audience increases in this crucial time slot for our two stations and have the number 1 and 2 commercial breakfast shows in Canberra is a great reason to celebrate, and look forward to continued growth and success with the shows.”

Fisher says, as well as the focus on both the new breakfast shows, the stations have continued to maintain high promotional activity, with recent campaigns including The Fugitive on 104.7 and Mark & Lisa’s Virtual House on MIX 106.3.
