MIX FM Sunshine Coast to drug test personalities

In a Sunshine Coast Radio first, MIX FM is drug testing leading local personalities live on air, but the unusual promotion has lead to some controversy.

MIX FM’s Mark and Caroline talked to outspoken critic of recreational drug testing in sport, former Wallaby Peter Fitzsimons, but during the interview Fitzsimons challenged the MIX FM breakfast duo to be drug tested themselves.

Caroline agreed, and along with Maroochy Mayor Joe Natoli, was tested for opiates, amphetamines and cannabis, live on air by Dr Jason from AMC Medical Centres. For the record both tests were negative. Mark however, refused to be tested, citing his right not to be, as it would be an invasion of his privacy.

This led to a healthy on air debate with listeners having their say as to whether or not workers should be forced to take drug tests. Caroline and many listeners were of the opinion that if you have nothing to hide – why not get tested.

The station is questioning whether it’s fair that athletes should be tested for recreational drugs in their “workplace”, when most of the rest of us in society are not.

The MIX FM resident medico Doctor Jason from Australian Medical Centres conducted the testing, which aims to reveal to the audience just what is involved, how long it takes, and hopefully that all the local celebs have been behaving themselves.
