MP to listen to outback community station worries

The federal Member for Maranoa says he will meet the Murweh Shire Mayor to discuss concerns about funding cutbacks at a Charleville indigenous radio station in south-west Queensland.

ABC Newsonline reports the Bidjara Media Corporation says it has been forced to sack three staff members after its funding was cut back to $250,000.

Mayor Mark O’Brien says it is a blow to the community.

Maranoa MP Bruce Scott says he will talk to councillor O’Brien when he visits Charleville this week.

He said: “I’ve certainly got an open mind. We’ll be discussing his concerns and I’m certainly looking forward to discussing the issue with him because any job losses in a rural community to me is a real problem and I just want to hear his concerns and see whether anything can be done”.
