New head of group sales at ARN

ARN has announced the appointment of Tim McDermott as Group Director of Sales.

ARN Chief Executive, Bob Longwell says it is “the perfect time for Tim to join ARN.”
“Our ratings are strong, our stations are continuing to dominate the 25 – 54 age group (where 71 cents in the dollar is spent) and we have significant growth potential in terms of ARN’s agency sales.”

McDermott is looking forward to returning to radio, the industry where he first cut his teeth and spent the majority of his career.

He told radioinfo: “ARN has experienced tremendous success in the last few years and although we will seek to further strengthen ARN’s retail sales strategy I see opportunities for ARN to make progress in the way it works with advertising agencies.”

McDermott started his career in radio in 1983, joining ARN in 1990. He went on to work for Austereo for a further six years, and was voted Radio Sales Representative of the year by his advertising peers in 1991, 1992 and 1993.

McDermott has also worked in Sports Management and at APN’s News & Media company, Australian Posters, where he was National Sales Director.

McDermott replaces John Williams who left the role to take on the job of General Manager of ARN’s Sydney Stations, Mix 106.5, 101.7 WSFM and The Edge 96.1 in July last year.

As part of his role, McDermott will lead ARN’s 200 strong Australian sales team.

Bob Longwell says targeting the lucrative 25 – 54 year old market is paying dividends with the last ratings survey recording Gold104 as the highest rating FM station in Melbourne and a number of other wins across the group.
