New station manager for ABC RN

Deborah Leavitt has been appointed to the position of RN Manager at ABC Radio. She has been acting in the role since March this year; her appointment is effective immediately.
“I am pleased Deborah has accepted the position. She brings with her not only invaluable experience, but also enthusiasm and passion for radio in general,” said Michael Mason, Acting Director, ABC Radio.
“She seamlessly stepped into the role as acting RN Manager earlier this year and has shown the leadership skills and passion for the network to help build on the significant role it plays in helping shape and reflect the Australian community.”
Before she came to the ABC in 1991, Ms Leavitt attended Columbia University and worked in newspapers before joining NPR, working on flagship current affairs program All Things Considered and Performance Today. During her time at the ABC she has worked on many programs including Mornings with Jon Faine on 774 ABC Melbourne, and worked with independent content producers as manager of the Regional Production Fund, before her appointment as Local Content Manager WA in 2005.
“While recognising it is a busy and uncertain period for the ABC, I know there is a strong future for the network and look forward to playing a part in securing the network’s place for audiences across the country,” said Ms Leavitt.
“Over the past six months I have got to know the amazing RN team, which produces some of the best radio content on the planet. I am proud to have been offered the position and look forward to formally stepping into the role.”
Deborah Leavitt moves to RN after nine years running ABC Local Radio Western Australia, including overseeing Perth’s number one talk radio station, 720 ABC Perth.
