This morning on Melbourne’s 101.9 The Fox FM, Katy Perry, who is performing at this Saturday’s AFL Grand Final between the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Lions, discussed cutting her biggest hit Roar from her set list, and a rumoured collaboration with Tina Arena.
While talking about Brendan Fevola‘s AFL past with the Brisbane Lions, Katy said:
Katy: “Oh, the Lions! I have to cut my song “Roar” out of the set because it’s not fair….”
Fev: “No… no, no no…”
Katy: “That’s what everybody says!”
Fev: “You need to play it!”
Katy: “Okay, I’ll play it. I’ll play it!”
Then Fev, who is as good as getting a scoop as 3AW’s Rumour File, asked about which artist she might see joining her on stage:
Fev: “It’s the Grand Final, the biggest day. I heard you this morning on Sunrise. You said you were going to come out with an Australian female icon… and then you said something about “chains” and “locks”… and I went Tina Arena!”
Katy: “You’ll just have to wait and see.”
Fev: “See, I’m not very smart but I put that together.”
Nick Cody: “That is some poker face!”
Katy: “All I know is that it’s a fellow Scorpio… and she’s great.”
To be impartial and still sing Roar, I was thinking it would a great one to do with the Swan brothers – John Dixon Swan and James Dixon Swan Barnes, better known as Swanee and Jimmy Barnes. Roar with Swanee has a nice ring to it!
Katy is with Fev and Nick in the main pic, Fifi Box was unwell.
Over at SCA’s other Melbourne station Triple M they’ve announced their grand final commentary lineup, including a swan song (I promise I mean that impartially) for Luke Darcy.
After a week of activities for AFL fans across Melbourne, Triple M has announced their commentators for the final will be Mark “Howie” Howard and Darcy, with comments and analysis from Jason Dunstall, Nathan Brown, Michael Roberts on the boundary plus veteran stats man Ash Chua.
Darcy, after more than 15 years and 400 footy calls, will hang up the microphone in 2025.
He told Rosie, Wil and Daisy on Triple M Melbourne Breakfast:
“To still be going to the best stadium in the world, the best game in the world, I just feel grateful. I actually stop for a minute in the carpark and remind myself how lucky I am to still be doing it. We’ve had so much fun, it’s such a privilege to be able to do it. Life’s a bit about timing so trying to exit at a time that suits. I will savour every bit of Grand Final Day.”
@triplemfooty In or out? Either way, Jack Higgins kicked an absolute ripper! 😇 #triplemfooty #jackhiggins #stkilda
SCA Head of Sports Content Ewan Giles said of Luke Darcy’s retirement:
“With Luke Darcy making his final call, it’s a special moment for all of us at Triple M. His impact on footy broadcasting has been immense, and we’re honoured to have him finish this chapter of his iconic career with us.”
Triple M’s Grand Final Day coverage begins with Dead Set Legends from the live site at the AFL Footy Festival at 10am, then the Saturday Rub at midday. The main event kicks off at 2:30 pm Saturday September 28. You can also catch the game live and on-demand on LiSTNR.
