Northside Vs. Southside in Brisbane’s B105’s $50K Trivia Turf War

Brisbanites have always had a preference of which side of the Brisbane River you should live on with B105 putting it to listeners to decide it once and for all in their $50K Trivia Turf War.

Every day on breakfast Stav, Abby and Matt will put a contestant from the North and South head-to-head in a battle of Brisvegas brains. Matty is Northsider, Abby a staunch Southsider and Stav has lived on both sides. They’ve reviewed what makes each stand out.

Demographics and Geographics: Brisbane’s Southside boasts a larger land area of 26,514ha vs. the North’s 18,660ha, and has a larger population and population density. The Southside is home to Greek, Italian, African, Chinese, Taiwanese, Indian, Samoan, Filipino, and Vietnamese communities and a resulting diverse spread of multicultural food, events, and suburbs, a brilliant snap of Brisbane. So, in this round of Demographics and Geographics, there is no-contest.

The Winner: Southside.

Hot Spots and Innovation: Whether you’re a tourist or moving to Brisbane for the first time, a big factor in where you stay or live depends on where the action is. Brisbane’s Northside seems to be relishing in all the flashiest new features, including Queen’s Wharf, Brisbane Live, Waterfront Precinct, Brisbane Airport’s New Runway, Herston Quarter, Howard Smith Wharves, Brisbane International Cruise Terminal. The Northside is also home to the nightlife capitol of Brisbane, Fortitude Valley, along with other cultural hubs such as Brisbane Powerhouse, The Tivoli, the Triffid, Brisbane Entertainment Centre, and Caxton Street. While the Southside does have QPAC, Metro Arts, the South Bank Precinct, West End and Fish Lane, there is no doubt that when anyone, North or South, is looking for a wild night out, the Northside is the place to be.

The Winner: Northside.

Sports and Events: For families and sports fans, proximity to the action is imperative. The Northside has Suncorp Stadium, and the South has The ‘Gabba – so equal access depending on your favourite sport. For events and festivals, there is an even spread across the city with events like Brisbane Festival and Anywhere Theatre Festival taking place across both North and South. Brisbane Northside has the Brisbane Showgrounds for one of the biggest events of the year, the Ekka. However, Riverfire’s best seats are along Southbank’s riverfront.

The Winner: It’s a Tie.

The winners each day progress until there’s just four. On Friday August 18 the last two standing will play for the title and $50,000.
