Nova 969’s state of mind

Despite the first ratings of the year having been less than what they had hoped for, Nova 969’s brekky team may have a hit on their hands as they work at melding their attributes into a winning combination. Given that one is funny, another sings and the third raps in a funny sort of way, Merrick Dools & Ricki-Lee have made their own version of “Empire State of Mind”.

Apparently they were mucking around in their office, singing random lyrics to “Empire State of Mind” when they decided it might be fun to do a Sydney version.

One verse and a chorus later – complete with rapping by Dools and vocals by Ricki-Lee who was a singer before she was a breakfast announcer – the song went to air during the brekky show with a call out to listeners email their suburb in for inclusion to the extended version.

It has now become the most requested song on Nova969 in the last week.

They got Sydney covered with shout outs to suburbs like, Blacktown, Maroubra, Newtown, Leichhardt, Chullora, Lindfield, Smithfield and Curl Curl and to people like Clover Moore, the Premier of NSW, Kristina Keneally, Harry Kewell, Lara Bingle and Michael Clarke.
