Tim Blackwell and Marty Sheargold from Nova’s Drive team have kicked off their Great Australian Road Trip for Mrs Mac’s in Perth – setting the pie eating bar high for the rest of the country.
Tim and Marty will host a pie eating competition in a different city every day this week, inviting listeners to see how many Mrs Mac’s pies they can eat in two minutes, while Kate Ritchie holds the fort back in the Sydney studio.
The local event was held at Perth Cultural Centre, with 20-year-old Hannah from Inglewood taking out the title of Perth’s Pie Eating Champion and scoring herself $1000 from Mrs Mac’s.
Hannah had prepared for the challenge well, eating only a small bowl of cornflakes for breakfast before consuming an impressive two and half pies in two minutes.
When asked after the event if she would be able to keep the pies down the cool competitor replied with “I just feel full, guess I won’t need lunch”.
Touching down in Perth yesterday, Tim and Marty decided to do as the locals do and check out the Sunday session at The Merrywell, where Marty was spotted doing “the worm”. Not so successfully from all reports.
The guys then went on to Adelaide and will be in Melbourne, Wednesday then Brisbane and finally Sydney for the last event. The national winner will get to take home an additional $1,000.
