Over 2000 toys collected during Star FM’s Toy Drive

Toys are piing up under Christmas Trees as Christmas Day approaches, and Star FM’s foyer is no exception. Star FM Shepparton’s I Believe in Christmas Toy Drive has been a massive success with over 2000 toys collected over the last 3 weeks.

To make sure the 2009 festive season was a little brighter for everyone, the team at 96 9 Star FM and the Salvation Army joined forces at the beginning of December to run a massive toy drive for under privileged children of the Goulburn Valley.

Pathways Program Manager of Community Support Service Michael Proby-Aughey says: “The Salvation Army Pathways has assisted many families in the Goulburn Valley with toys for their children this Christmas.  Pathways is very appreciative of Star FM and the community for their support in helping those disadvantaged people in our local community.”

The support from the community has been amazing, when Star FM opened its studio doors, the gifts came flooding in from as far away as Kyabram and Benalla, with people donating both new and pre-loved toys.

Star FM Breakfast announcer Joe Gleeson has told radioinfo:

“The Star FM Toy Drive is like the ultimate act of generosity!  You’re giving to someone you will probably never meet and trying to make sure they have a special day. No one’s there to pat you on the back and ‘say good on you!’ It’s completely selfless.”

Breakfast co-host Adam Lavelle says a big thankyou to all the families who donated toys to needy children this Christmas, “especially those kids who willing parted with their own toys to make another kid happy.”

Star FM is still taking any and all toys, right up until Christmas Eve and wishes everyone who has assisted with these donations a very Merry Christmas and best wished for the New Year.
