Parliamentary Enquiry wants to find out why Digital TV take up is too slow

Digital Radio will have to take some lessons from the tv industry on how not to roll out new services.

The take up of digital tv has been less than expected by politicians and the tv industry, and an enquiry into digital tv take-up has been announced.

The enquiry chairwoman, Liberal Member Jackie Kelly, says Australians “seem to be unaware of the technology or reluctant to buy it.”

Figures show that less than 50% of Australian households are likely to be equipped with digital tv by the time analogue television is scheduled to be phased out in 2008.

The inquiry will focus on the reasons behind the low take-up rate, the current roll out process and options for encouraging further interest in digital TV.
