Paul Murray finds the Heart of Sydney

A callous act by two thugs brings out the best in 100’s of listeners

Doing what radio does best, Paul Murray opened his 2UE ‘A Sydney Morning’ show determined to right a wrong. The day before, in a busy shopping mall, a 70 year old volunteer, selling raffle tickets to aid The Kids with Cancer Foundation, was robbed of $4,000 in takings.

While Police were looking for the two culprits captured on CCTV, Murray was urging his listeners to pledge some cash to to make up for the stolen 4k by the end of his shift.

Paul Murray was the first to put his hand in his pocket and pledge $500. NSW Premier, Barry O’Farrell rang in to match it.

And a listener, Rhonda, who didn’t sound as if she had that sort of money to give away, pledged $1,000.

With listeners and 2UE clients lining up to donate, by 11:30 am more than $10,000 had been pledged to The Kids with Cancer Foundation.
