Perth radiothon for Sonshine FM

98.5 Sonshine FM’s annual on-air party Radiothon will take place at the end of August.

It is described as “three days of mayhem as celebrities, sporting and TV personalities drop by the Radiothon phone centre to eat merrily, talk freely and raise funds for 98.5 Sonshine FM.”

Radiothon is Sonshine FM’s main fundraising event, a weekend where hundreds of listeners give to support the stations’ on-going work.

Sonshine FM’s General Manager Barry Grosser says: “Many people appreciate the positive attitude of 98.5 Sonshine FM, summed up in our slogan ‘No greed, no ridicule, no hurt’. However, many are unaware that Sonshine FM is a non-profit, community radio station. We survive only on the donations and gifts of listeners, and through limited business sponsorship.”

Last year listeners pledged over $100,000 for the broadcaster. This year’s Radiothon target is $130,000.

The radiothon will feature appearances from personalities like Justin Langer, Tod Johnston (Channel 9) and Monica Kos (Channel 7).

Funds raised will help purchase new equipment, help support the Sonshine Careline, Sonshine FM’s crisis telephone counselling service, and contribute to other day-to-day expenses.

There will be prizes, auctions and studio open days during the radiothon – Friday August 22 to Sunday August 24.
