Peter Brennan exits 2UE 954

Radio 2UE 954 looking for a replacement

Peter Brennan has been with 2UE for two and a half years. His last day in the office will be Friday 14 December 2012.

General Manager Chris Parker said that Peter had served in the challenging role as Program Director with distinction through a period of incredible change.

The search is now on for a replacement. Asked what type of skills he is looking for, Mr Parker told radioinfo, “A programmer who can be successful in newstalk in this market is an extremely rare beast. Obviously it has to be somebody with a sound understanding of the radio business, but beyond that is able to take advantage of the unique opportunity that the format offers. I.E. that relationship with the listener, which is so much deeper than some of the music formats getting around.”

The person chosen to fill the role would need to pursue the station’s target demographic. Mr Parker said, “Absolutely we’re looking to target 35-54 year olds as opposed to 55 – 64 year olds. We think that that fundamental goal is worth pursuing now as it was worth pursuing previously, but perhaps the means or strategy to achieve that outcome may need to change.”

Mr Parker then went on to praise Peter Brennan, saying, “During his tenure at 2UE 954, Peter has led the programming team through some very exciting and also difficult times,” Mr Parker said.“His energy and commitment to 2UE 954 and talk radio has seen him drive considerable change and we have benefited from his safe and steady hands during challenging periods.

“Peter informed me in late August that he was considering his future with the station and ultimately he has decided to leave 2UE.

“As you would expect from a great team player, Peter is staying until mid-December to ensure that 2UE is well set up for summer programming and beyond.

“I would like to thank Peter for his hard work, professionalism and dedication over the years and wish him all the best with his next challenge,” Mr Parker said.

Mr Parker said an international search had commenced for Peter Brennan’s successor.

“Content Director at a news talk station is one of the hardest jobs in commercial radio – so we’ll be searching far and wide for the right person to cultivate, lead and develop our Content team, identify new talent and drive ratings success in 2013 and beyond.”
