Pigs might fly… but not on the Gold Coast

92.5 Gold FM may face action from the RSPCA after a station stunt attempted to make a piglet fly.

The RSPCA says it was inundated with complaints from Gold Coast listeners after the Gold FM breakfast crew tied 200 helium balloons to the wee little piggy to try and make it fly.

An RSPCA vet said the animal was “clearly distressed.”

The RSPCA intends to discuss the stunt gone wrong with the station then decide if further action is necessary.

PD Jason Matthews issued a statement suggesting that the whole incident had been blown out of proportion:

“The piglet’s owner was standing right beside it at all times and there was no chance of it lifting… in fact the the owner had it on a leash.

“The piglet’s owner was well placed to tell if the pig was uncomfortable and informed us of what would happen if the piglet did become uncomfortable.

“This is a piglet who attends kids parties every week and is quite comfortable with being around other people.”

Jason Matthews said he apologised if people thought the station put the pig in a stressful situation.
