Ed Sheeran continues his Australian tour this weekend in Brisbane with shows at Suncorp Friday and Sunday night.
Fans of the red headed Yorkshireman will know that he so loves his local football club Ipswich Town that he bought a stake in it and in return the club’s kit is emblazoned with Ed’s albums logos, which you can buy and take home. Additionally, he is known for popping up, and even doing pop up gigs, at Ipswiches all over the globe.
Naturally Ipswich, which is about 40km out of Brisbane, has gotten in on the act too with a solid campaign to entice Sheeran, including a town mural (see below) and this whole month being renamed Ed-uary.
Ipswich is the heartland of radio station River 94.9. They have used their considerable audience to ensure that the message reaches the man. But what I like, and we are seeing increasingly in an industry that is normally so competitive, is that Brisbane stations have gotten involved too.
B105‘s breakfast team of Stav, Abby and Matt headed to Ipswich to scope out potential options for a pop up visit, but they did so after Gary Hardgrave, who hosts Drive on talk station 4BC did the same:
But what happened next is virtually unheard of on radio. Gary appeared on B105 in their breakfast show to talk up the Ipswich campaign and Stav, Abby and Matt then returned the favour.
Ed Sheeran’s albums are all mathematical symbols, so let’s hope this multiplication of radio campaigners get the desired plus one into Ipswich.
