There is lots of movement at the station(s) this week. Disrupt Radio launched, Neil Breen signed off and most network’s stars have taken their winter break allowing up and comers to test the ropes, or in WSFM’s case, use an Ugly Phil In.
Disrupt Radio launched with Libbi Gorr sharing the airwaves with Sir Bob Geldof. The Disrupt line up includes Firas Massouh, George McEncroe, Nick Bracks, Sunil Badami, Siimon Reynolds to accompany Gorr, Jules Lund, Adam Ferrier, Moana Hope, Megan Flamer and Alan Jones. George Donikian, and AI will provide news content.
Founder and CEO of Disrupt, Benjamin Roberts said on LinkedIn just prior to the launch,
“So here’s to a 5 year business plan and dream that’s come to life, and might I say after being retrenched by Fairfax Radio and told to dumb down my CV if I wanted to stay in the industry… And here’s to every person that’s played a part in this adventure.”
Breen began his final show on Friday thanking his listeners and playing Bruce Springsteen. He is leaving to spend more time with family. Peter Gleeson fills in on Drive until a permanent replacement is announced. You can hear Breen’s last break below:
And elsewhere, for the next two weeks, Nova Network’s Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small will host Nova’s national breakfast show with Perth getting the best of Nathan, Nat & Shaun in breakfast over the survey break.
The Hit Network will feature the Hamish & Andy podcast for breakfast, Jimmy & Nath on Drive and regular Hit106.9 mornings announcer Sean Brown (Seany B for Nights) from 6-9pm.
And, Phil O’Neil is covering for WSFM’s Jonesy and Amanda while they take their two-week midyear break with the Ugly Phil-in.
I had a listen to Disrupt Radio on DAB+ today, 26-06-2023 in Sydney
It is broadcasting at a bitrate at 16kbs which is acceptable for spoken word content.
There are many ads for AAMI and GWM cars both recorded and live reads.
Content wise, the station talks to entrepreneurs of different types including Bob Geldof, Richard Branson and real estate entrepreneur John McGrath to name a few.
There is talk of forthcoming developments in battery technology. For example two-seater electric aeroplanes with one hour flight capacity are being tested in Australia.
The talk is upbeat and informative. During transmission, there are continual disclaimers that the presentations do not constitute financial advice under the Corporations Act 2001 and people should consult with a qualified financial adviser
Definitely it is a channel which is much more informative with lots of takeaways compared to a "Talking Lifestyle" channel.
The content seems to be replayed at a later time.
I hope that the content is will still be available in the future.
All my DAB+ radios have a preset for Disrupt Radio.
Thank you,
Anthony, at last something different with takeaways, Strathfield South, in the land of the Wangal and Darug Peoples of the Eora Nation
