Two points:
(1) Despite the efforts to promote MSR and recruiting famous sportspeople and people well-versed in sporting knowledge, the ratings in the Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane Markets, 0.6, 0.3 and 0.7 respectively have not budged.
It was a bold risk and nothing is gained by doing nothing. Without being privy to the finances, I cannot see how MSR can continue in its current format. In a way that 2KY is generally about horse and dog racing and Australians wanting to gamble, it does not translate to big audiences. The same could be said that because Australia may be a sport-loving nation does not translate to big audiences.
(2) 2CH's ratings have increased by 50% from 3.0 to 4.5. Can an AM radio still broadcast music and rate? 4KQ's 9.2 rating is very close to its rivals at 10+. It certainly beat talk station 4BC at 5.6. Let's not forget that when MMM and 2DAY were well established by the mid 1980s, 2CH was still the top rating music station. At the moment 2CH at 4.5 is lower than 2MMM at 4.6 by 0.1. Conclusion cannot say that AM is for talk and FM is for music. However DAB is the great leveller with 2CH having the best bit rate at 128kbs compared to other stations.
I do believe that 2CH's branding could be improved with short jingles/stings and a 'soothing' voice with the qualities of Paul Ricketts (RIP) or Tony Featherstone (RIP).
Thank you,
Anthony of exciting Belfield.
