“A Radio Station Like No Other”

Broadcaster and radioinfo correspondent Ian MacRae has launched a fortnightly podcast inspired by his first book of fiction “The Wilton Bay Chronicles”, in which there are two competing radio stations in an idyllic beachside town.

WBFM is a network station playing The Music of Your Life and the other The Seventh Wave.

“There  are already 6 stations in real life called WaveFM – true,” says Ian.

This fictional station is edgy and contentious with some content very much in direct contravention of current broadcasting regulations. The plan is for the podcast to sound like it is an aircheck compilation of the best bits of programming on that virtual station from the previous fortnight.

Ian is also encouraging on-air talent, to submit an occasional segment away from the frustrations of their usual program genre where they may be restricted by station format or government broadcast policies, to create something which they’ve always wanted to do but are unable amid constraints.

As an example, the first episode of the podcast includes one of the truly awful artists appearing at the Wilton Bay establishment Bonks Bistro & Bar.

A send-up of the classic movie Casablanca. A discussion about God and how he’s become a bit low profile lately. A tongue-in-cheek local traffic report. A Donald Trump parody song. And on a more serious note some home truths about the health & fitness industry. And there’s “Lessons in Life” from George The One-Legged Greek.

The podcast is called: “A Radio Station Like No Other” and is, obviously, labelled “Explicit” on iTunes.
