The ratings bounce

With Survey 5 came some interesting results with radioinfo reporting that
ABC 702 had the biggest fall, down 1.7 share points, losing listeners in all timeslots.

Sue Javes in the Sydney Morning Herald reports that whilst many industry insiders say that the “ratings bounce” is just a survey anomaly, perhaps the ABC should be concerned as they went down in four of five regions.

Nielsen Media correctly states that surveys should not be looked at in isolation but should be studied over months to identify patterns.

Javes suggests that Triple M should be more worried than ABC 702 as their ratings have been dropping over the last 8 surveys, with some suggesting the talk/comedy might not be working.
There is the suggestion the talk/comedy format is fragmenting the audience and that this could create a nice window for Vega to take advantage of in the future.

Naturally this leads to speculation that some of the big stars of Triple M might not survive should ratings continue to fall at the M’s.
