After nearly 17 years, and 12 regional Queensland radio stations that grew from an initial two at Charters Towers, Rex Morris and Guy Dobson are selling their Resonate Broadcasting stations. As to the reasons why, Rex simply said:
“It’s time.”
Both Rex and Guy have had significant day jobs alongside their radio station interests. Rex was the Content Director for Triple M Sydney up until he accepted a redundancy late last year. He had been with SCA for 35 years. When Guy left SCA and his role of Chief Creative Officer six years ago he went on to be part of the syndicate that purchased Mix and Sea on the Sunshine Coast from the late Glenn Wheatley (he is a Director of the Great Southern Land Media Group) while also three years ago creating the organisation Asia Radio Concepts (ARC), where he’s also Director. With it he teamed with Liverpool Football Club (LFC) to establish LFC-branded radio stations throughout the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

SCA provided sales services for the Resonate stations. 4CCC 101.7 FM (West FM) in Charleville is a repeater station for SCA’s Hit South Queensland with 4GC, one of the original Resonate purchases in Charters Towers, now part of the Triple M network. Guy and Rex are keeping the three Hawaiian radio stations they also own as a separate entity.
Rex told Radioinfo that the stations, which provide coverage for nearly 40% of Queensland, a larger area than some countries, have a dedicated and loyal audience. As to the future purchaser he doesn’t think they’ll necessarily be one of the expected names that would be thrown into the ring.
Resonate Broadcasting station are 4GC and West FM 95.9 Charters Towers, 4LG and West FM Longreach, 4LM Mt Isa, 4HI and 4EM Emerald, 4SB Kingaroy, 4DB Dalby, St, George/Goondiwindi and Roma, 4ZR Roma, 4VL and West FM Charleville.
When we asked what’s next for Rex, he laughed and said:
“Good question. Uncharted waters ahead.
Perhaps I should say, uncharted airwaves.”
