River 949 becomes Channel 949

Channel Nine has taken the next step in strengthening its relationship with the Ipswich community by ‘tying the knot’ with local radio station River 949 to simulcast the evening news. To celebrate River 949 will become Channel 949 for just one day, Monday 1st December 2008.

The station says the new venture “means catching up on the day’s events on the commute home is as easy as a touch of a button with Nine News to be simulcast across River 949’s airwaves every night from 6pm starting Monday December 1.”

River has potential listening audience of around 1.2 million, and a fortuitous signal which stretches from Toowoomba to Brisbane’s southern suburbs and the Gold Coast.

General Manager of River 949 David Greenwood has told radioinfo:

“This relationship has been developing over recent times due in part to the commitment both mediums have to the South East corridor. River949, being the local radio station in concert with Channel 9 will pool resources to offer listeners and viewers an expanded community engagement spearheaded by River949’s simulcast of Nine News each night. It’s a very exciting opportunity for our radio station which prides itself on being home grown and local with the association offering expanded local news, promotions and personality input.”

To bless the new partnership River 949 will host a special ‘Channel 949’ day at its North Ipswich studios this Monday, December 1. Channel Nine identities including Bruce Paige and Heather Ford will join the River 949 team in firing up the barbie for a special reception breakfast.
