River 949 farewells The Pig

Ipswich based River 949 is set to farewell an Australian legend this Friday with a live broadcast from RAAF Base Amberley. 

Friday see’s the official farewell ceremony for the mighty F1-11 Fighter Jet, an aircraft that has graced the skies above Ipswich and was part of Australia’s arsenal for over 40 years.

River 949 has been given exclusive access to the base for the invitation only event and will help bring listeners all the colour and excitement plus updates on flight paths and where to see the final ever “Dump and Burn”.

The F1-11 (or Pig to those who fly her) is the only aircraft in the RAAF fleet able to execute the spectacular “Dump and Burn” with fuel jettisoned creating an enormous flame from the tail of the aircraft.

River 949 Program Director Mike Byrne says the entire on air team are excited to be involved in the farewell ceremony. “We’ll all miss this iconic aircraft but we can’t wait to bring listeners all the fun of Friday”
