Legendary race caller Ron Hawkswell has retired. He chose Saturday August 31, 2024 to call his final race, as it was 50 years to the day since his first.

He chatted with Michael Felgate on RSN 927 about his decision to hang up the binoculars, the meaning behind the date and memories and how he started race calling at 3DB, which you can listen to below:

In the interview Felgate said that Hawkswell has called:

– 30 Topgun’s
– 38 Australian Cup’s
– 26 Melbourne Cup’s
– 30 Cranbourne Cup’s
– 40 Silver Chief’s
– 39 Maturity Classic’s

and many thousands of others.
