3AW is ready for AFL season 2025 even if the weather isn’t playing ball. There’s a host of returning names to the commentary box providing expert analysis, play-by-play coverage, and in-depth discussions, and some new recruits.
It has already been announced that Laura Spurway will become station’s first dedicated AFLW reporter, contributing to the Sunday coverage and appearing across all games. Boundary reporters Jacqui Reed and Carlton AFLW vice captain Abbie McKay also return.
Geelong champion, Joel Selwood (pictured) joins the team rotating across all games bringing his current and fresh footy knowledge with him. Additionally, Rory Sloane brings his own wealth of experience to a new role on Nine’s Sunday Footy Show. Sloane too will be rotating into 3AW’s coverage, taking a seat next to Leigh Matthews.
The 3AW AFL 2025 line-up includes:
-
Thursday Night Football: Jimmy Bartel and Matthew Richardson, with callers Anthony Hudson and Bruce Eva.
-
Friday Night Football: Jimmy Bartel and Matthew Lloyd, with callers Tim Lane and Matt Granland.
-
Saturday Footy Preview: Tim Lane, Caroline Wilson, and Leigh Matthews set the stage for the day’s action.
-
Saturday Early Game: Leigh Matthews and Joel Selwood, with callers Bruce Eva and Tony Leonard.
-
Saturday Twilight Game: Tony Shaw and Libby Birch, with callers Matt Granland and Shane McInnes.
-
Sunday Football: Tony Shaw and Matthew Richardson, with callers Bruce Eva and Matt Granland.
The Eddie and Jimmy podcast (Eddie McGuire and Jimmy Bartel) also returns with three episodes a week, available to listen to on Apple Podcasts and Spotify, and to watch on 9Now.
Having a look at the fixtures and schedules, this does now mean that the late game on a Saturday night will not be covered by 3AW, which means if you want to hear it you will have to listen to the ABC, SEN or Triple M.
Nor can you watch it for free either. Seven only seems to have the rights to select games and times, and Saturdays are not included. So if your team is playing Saturday night and you in the past had Seven on with 3AW in the background, this will no longer be an option.
The season opener is now on Friday night March 7 between the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn.
