Royal Wedding Songs not so flattering

SEA FM Central Queensland has come up with a novel way to celebrate the wedding of Charles and Camilla – a lovers’ weekend, featuring the top 20 songs for the royal reception.

The countdown was created by listeners, who sent in SMS votes all weekend.

SEA FM Program Director, Ross Turner, says: “We couldn’t believe how many people wanted to help us create this countdown. We took votes and suggestions via SMS and were blown away at the creativity, and the amount of text messages we received. We have some twisted listeners, and we love them for being so.”

The SEA FM Morning crew, Smith and Blunty, volunteered to host the countdown, which aired from 4pm on Sunday. Before Saturday night’s wedding, Smithy said: “It’ll be just like being there, and I’m really looking forward to the frock. I’m betting Blunty that she’ll have a bigger train than Di’s – cos she’s got a fair caboose!”

Complimentary songs were hard to find in the top 20. Popular choices included “Big Mistake” (Natalie Imbruglia); “Bitch” (Meredith Brooks); “Candle In The Wind ’97” (Elton John); and “Nasty Girl” (Nitty), culminating in a top 5 countdown:

* (5) “Better Off Alone” (Grinspoon)
* (4) “Not Pretty Enough” (Casey Chambers)
* (3) “Who Let The Dogs Out?” (Baha Men)
* (2) “Dude Looks Like A Lady” (Aerosmith)
* (1) “Love Rears Its Ugly Head” (Living Colour).

While well received by listeners overall, in the interests of balance, Turner says SEA FM did take a few complaint calls.
