RTRFM making WA music heard

Perth’s RTRFM 92.1 is doing its bit to give upcoming Western Australian bands exposure with their segments The View from Here.

WA’s music scene is currently thriving, producing successful local and international acts like Tame Impala, Pond, The Growl and Abbe May among many others, with Tame Impala’s most recent album Lonerism receiving the 2012 J Award for Album of the Year, the Rolling Stone Award for Album of the Year and a Grammy Nomination.

The segment is filmed and edited by local filmmaker, animator and producer Sam Price, produced by RTRFM, and supported by the Department of Culture and Arts.

The View from Here’s most recent performance showcases Methyl Ethel who’s ambient set perfectly combines their full live sound in the unique – and tiny – confines of the RTRFM office.

The segment allows bands to broadcast their live ability to a wide audience, generally without having the following needed the perform on Triple J’s Like A Version.

Incidentally, it’s the last week of Triple J’s Ausmusic Month where Like A Version has been dominated exclusively by Australian bands
