Same Sex and the City

Nova’s Merrick and Dools announced this morning that they are searching for Sydney’s most loved-up gay couple to be one of the first Australian gay couples to be married in New York.

On June 24th the US announced that New York has legalised same-sex marriage. New York will become the sixth state where gay couples can wed and the biggest by far.

This morning Australian singer songwriter Darren Hayes called in to the breakfast program and told the boys that he thinks the decision is ‘historic’ and that he has been married to his partner for 5 years following a civil ceremony. He went on to say “it’s a wonderful wonderful thing you’re doing’

Dools said: When we saw the positive impact that the New York decision had on so many people, we thought, wouldn’t it be great to send a couple from Sydney to New York to be a part of that.  Mez was worried that we wouldn’t be able to find a gay couple, but then he realised we live in Sydney.  We’re genuinely excited about changing a couple’s life.”

In the spirit of Living life Nova, the station is sending a couple over to tie the knot in NYC. “We’re throwing in airfares accommodation and of course paying for the ceremony.”
