Sea FM’s new breakfast team calls on a familiar voice

Byron Cooke and Kristie Mercer are returning to Breakfast on Central Coast’s 101.3 Sea FM for 2015.

Southern Cross Austereo Gosford General Manager Paul Wrigley said, “We welcome them to our Central Coast family.”

Byron Cooke comes from within the SCA Network; currently on-air with Sea FM’s Weekend Breakfast and at Fox FM, as a Workday Announcer. Byron was also an integral part of the Fifi and Jules Show.

In 2012, Byron won the award for “International Radio Personality of the Year” at the Worldwide Radio Summit and this year joined the Seven Network’s AFL Game Day program, talking music with the stars of the AFL on his “Beats by Game Day” segment.

The Central Coast has become a second home to Byron, who said, “My parents moved to the Central Coast in 2002 to start a business. I’ve been on-air at Sea FM for the last four years via our networked shows in Drive and Weekend Breakfast, so I’m no stranger from a radio point of view either. There are no words to explain how awesome it’s going to be to be a part of the Central Coast community.”

Kristie Mercer’s career began in Townsville, hosting a solo Drive show. Since then, Kristie has worked on Breakfast shows in Gippsland and Albury. She is also one half of the‘The Thinkergirls’, whose highly successful Thinkergirl: The Podcast delivers a no limits look into everything a Gen Y woman is thinking, but not saying.

In her spare time Kristie is a freelance writer and columnist with her hugely popular ‘Twenty Something’ Fairfax column.

Kristie said, “I’m seriously so wrapped for the show next year! It’s exciting to be working with such a pro like Byron and already the vibe from the new team has been so energetic.  I can’t wait to be a part of the Central Coast and the lifestyle.”

Sea FM is excited about the energy that is coming for listeners in 2015, with Content Director Ryan Tothill saying, “They’re two exceptionally talented radio people, and come with a wealth of experience. Byron has spent a lot of time on the Coast with his family living here. We’re pumped to have him on Breakfast in 2015. Kristie is up there with the best, and I’m looking forward to her joining the Sea FM team.”
