After 12 years of waking up Melbourne, Nova 100’s Hughesy & Kate today announced they have made the difficult decision that this will be their final year of breakfast radio together.
Hughesy & Kate were the first voices that launched the station in December 2001. Since then, they have shared everything with their listeners and this morning, that meant sharing the news that they made the incredibly hard choice not to take up Nova 100’s offer of another contract to host the breakfast show.
Hughesy said, “We’ve had so much fun since 2001. It’s has been a joy to come to work. It’s been a joy to work with you Katie. I have not had one boring day in 12 years.”
Kate said, “It is not a decision that we came to easily, as we love what we do, but we feel good about it. I love Nova and I love you Hughesy but I love sleep more!”
Hear this morning’s announcement:
After 2,800 shows, over 3500 guests, 60 outside broadcasts, two weddings and the birth of seven children, the final Hughesy & Kate breakfast show will be broadcast on Friday 29 November.
“Hughesy & Kate are truly incredible talents and we have been honoured to share their lives for the last 12 years. There’s a lot of celebrating to do between now and their final show which will deservedly be a momentous send off,” said Helen Davies, General Manager.
A best of Hughesy & Kate will run during the September survey break as part of the celebrations of 12 years on air and further announcements about 2014 will be made in due course.
