Slow and steady – Kyle Sandilands creates club to tackle health

Earlier this year, after the discovery of his brain aneurysm the KIIS Network‘s Kyle Sandilands acknowledged he needed to look after his health better. The diagnosis had left him feeling depressed and, in his own words, “too fat.”

To hold himself accountable, and in typical Kyle fashion, he floated the idea of creating Kyle’s Big Fatso Club where “fat pigs” (his words) could join him on a slow but steady march towards better health.

Intern Pete Deppeler took the concept and ran with it (although running itself will not be part of Kyle’s changes), turned it into a proper scheme to help Kyle, and KIIS listeners, with that extra pushup (that too won’t be part of this) toward setting realistic goals, making better choices and working towards sustainable results.

Week one saw Kyle swap chicken chips, Cadbury Twirls, and soft drinks for coconut water, fruit, and yoghurt. And treadmill walks. When he stepped on the scales live on-air on Wednesday August 6 they said 139.7kg. Kyle’s goal is 100kg.

The changes made in week 1 saw Kyle lose 2.4kg.

“I said even if I’d not lost anything, I was committed to keep going. But now, I’m feeling optimistic – I can already see changes.”

Some of Australia’s best-known fitness faces are joining the club to help out, including:

  • Jeff Fenech – Designing a simple, low-impact workout plan including 20-minute walks and gentle abdominal exercise.

  • Michelle Bridges – Rolling out weekly meal plans featuring dishes such as Beef & Broccolini Stir Fry and a healthier take on the classic cheeseburger.

  • Manu Feildel – Crafting delicious breakfast ideas including a Spinach & Egg White Omelette and a natural yoghurt with fresh fruits and nuts.

  • Dr KIIS (Dr Sam Hay) – Joining The Kyle & Jackie O Show each Thursday morning, taking calls from club members to help navigate challenges and continuing motivation for results.

Recipes can be found here.

Kyle’s next weigh-in will be at 9.00am on Wednesday August 20, live on The Kyle & Jackie O Show. You can walk alongside Kyle and join the club here.
